What is it?

A collection of poetry from New Zealand Poet Paige Bolland.

What's it all about?

This poetry collection is Bolland's love letter to London, the city she spent the beginning of her adult life in. Moving from New Zealand to the U.K at the age of seventeen on her own, Bolland has created a collage-like image of what it means to start a new life in an unknown world. The book often touches on her mental health and her long battle with anxiety, that brings to light the many battles women with such issues deal with in the mundane moments of the day to day. Throughout these fragments of memories, Bolland is able to transport us into her mind with ease, and it is clear that each word has been meticulously chosen, each with such weight and imagery, that we understand exactly what she was feeling in the exact moment she wrote it.

How Did It Make Me Feel?

These poems have a real dream-like quality that makes you feel almost drowsy, like you've spend the day in the sun drinking cider, and I found myself becoming completely immersed. I often felt like I was looking over an old diary, reading entries from my youth that filled me with such nostalgia that I couldn't help but devour the whole thing in one sitting.

Who does it remind me of?

It immediately reminded me of a young Amanda Lovelace, with similarities to her debut collection The Princess Saves Herself In This One. There were also splashing's of Young Adult fiction vibes, that resembled writers such as Sarah Dessen.

Where Can I Get It?

Bolland's poetry is only available on amazon at the moment (see link below!) but if you are in London and connect with her on Instagram you can buy direct from her too!

Anything Else?

Read this book if you are feeling nostalgic, longing for those summer days that never seem to end. Read it for a reminder that those quiet, simple moments, are often the most beautiful.
