A Partnership presented by Paper Mug Theatre

What Is It?

In real time, a couple spend an hour exploring their relationship and themselves, and find out whether honesty is always the best policy.

What Is It All About?

Ally (Ben Hadfield) is turning thirty. An hour before midnight Ally and his boyfriend Zach (Rory Thomas-Howes) stumble into their apartment after night of celebration. But Ally is unimpressed as Zach has lashed out at one of his colleagues, and so begins the spiral of the relationship they thought was surviving all the odds.

As the couple count down the minutes, secrets and lies bubble to the surface and both partners bare their darkest selves to one another.

Issues that come up are not unfamiliar, as the pair deal with the things that most other couples share, often making the show even more watchable.

It is the intimate moments that really draw you in though, such as when Ally's silly nature has Zach smiling in spite of himself and revealing the gorgeousness and complexities of loving another.

How Did It Make Me Feel?

The most exciting thing about this show is the fact that it never stops surprising you. Just as the story is taking the audience down a particular road, it immediately does something completely different. The performances are energised and engaging and portray something that many LGBTQ+ shows tend to miss.

The writing by Rory Thomas-Howes is sharp and hilarious, with so many one liners that it if you don't focus for a split second, you could miss them.

Ben Hadfield is brilliant in the role of Ally, both sarcastic and warm, and always bringing so much life, at at times heartbreak, to this wordy script.

The dynamic between the pair is gorgeous to watch, and reflects the true nature of relationships that have been through difficult times.

Anything Else?

Incredibly funny, raw and clever A Partnership isn't afraid to get into the nitty gritty of what it means to be in love.
