10 Things I Hate About Taming Of The Shrew by Gillian English, PBH's Free Fringe at Voodoo Rooms

What Is It?

Gillian English takes this well known Shakespearean play and rips it shreds, explaining why it is so terrible and should no longer be a production that is performed.

What Is It All About?

Canadian comedian Gillian English (by way of Australia somehow she jokes) is not happy. The Taming Of The Shrew is a terrible play and should "die in a fire!" she exclaims.

After a detailed run down of the plot of this horrific show, that is filled with abusive, toxic relationships, violence against women, hardcore misogyny and sexism and a list of many other things that English has no problem recounting, we get to the list.

Gillian has ten reasons as to why she hates this play and she is going to give them to us now!

Buckle in folks, you are about to get schooled!

How Did It Make Me Feel?

I am genuinely upset that it has taken me this long to discover Gillian English.

She is such an incredible performer, with energy that explodes out of her from the moment she takes the stage.

English knows her stuff, she has three theatre degrees (she went to LAMDA she will have you know) and she wastes no time deconstructing this play, and William Shakespeare's overrated popularity and will have you laughing your ass off throughout.

She is a fantastic storyteller and while her show is a series of tangents, these tangents are so worth being there for.

Also worth noting, any fellow Aussies attending the show, be prepared for the best impression of an Aussie accent you have ever heard from a non-native! AMAZING!

Anything Else?

I laughed more than I have so far this fringe, English knows her brand and runs with it. Absolutely worth seeing! People of fringe DO NOT MISS THIS!
